Poreč

Poreč is a tourist Mecca. Aside from the fascinating old town with the preserved Roman street layout and the Euphrasian Basilica, guests are also drawn by many excellent accommodation capacities. Many of them return to Poreč because of numerous well-kept beaches, cafes and restaurants as well as excellent opportunities for recreation, from tennis, cycling and trekking to all kinds of water sports. Euphrasian Basilica

The complex of the Euphrasian Basilica is the most famous landmark in Poreč, but its significance exceeds the borders of Istria and Croatia, and it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Basilica is one of the best preserved and most beautiful early Byzantine churches in Europe. It was built in the 6th century during Bishop Euphrasius, and the mosaics in the apse are especially impressive. It will take at least an hour or two to visit it, for such an architectural and artistic gem is a rare sight!

Old Town

Due to a large number of impressive buildings belonging to various architectural and artistic styles, from Antiquity to the 20th century, the old town is practically a museum under the stars. The “exhibits” are the remains of a Roman temple, the Roman layout of streets and squares, the Early Christian Euphrasian Basilica, Romanesque houses, Gothic and Baroque palaces, medieval towers. The island of St. Nikola

The island of St. Nikola, located opposite the town, is a natural shield of the city port, strengthened by two breakwaters. It is the largest and most beautiful of Poreč islands, and also a popular bathing site. Along with the regulated, fenced beaches, the western side of the island has beautiful rocky open-sea beaches. The island has a hotel with a pool and catering facilities that offer refreshments. Thick pine trees provide shade in the hot summer days. Here you will find a round tower from 1402, one of the oldest lighthouses in the Adriatic, now no longer in function. The island can be reached by boat that leaves every half hour from the main pier.
